MoMA PS1 Receives $1 M. Gift from Teiger Foundation

MoMA PS1 has received a $1 million donation toward the funding of future exhibitions from the Teiger Foundation.

A dedicate fund known as the Teiger Foundation Exhibition Fund will support exhibitions by MoMA PS1’s curatorial team, which includes Jody Graf, Elena Ketelsen González, and Kari Rittenbach. Using money from the fund, those curators are already organizing upcoming solo exhibitions by artists Julien Ceccaldi, Whitney Claflin, and Sandra Poulson, respectively.

“Exhibition funds support long-term planning, allowing curators to develop ideas over time. Work
with artists can start earlier and be more collaborative, facilitating experimentation over many
months or years,” Ruba Katrib, MoMA PS1’s chief curator and director of curatorial affairs, said in a statement. “We are thrilled that the Teiger Foundation Exhibition Fund will enable MoMA PS1 to support artists, pursue urgent ideas, and grow as a team.”

Intended to honor the late collector and art patron David Teiger (1929–2014), the Teiger Foundation is a private fund dedicated to supporting contemporary art curators. Teiger joined the board of MoMA PS1 in 2000 and that same year helped fund the inaugural Greater New York quinquennial. He also donated to a number of shows at the museum for years leading up to his death.

“Throughout its history, MoMA PS1 has been an incubator for curators working on all platforms,
offering an integrated curatorial approach that spans our galleries, the stage, and the city,” said
MoMA PS1 director Connie Butler in a statement. “Our curators are pushing forward this important ethos through experimental, international programming. I am so grateful that David’s generosity, through the legacy of the Foundation, will help make the ambitious visions of our curatorial team possible and have a strong impact on the artists in our community.”
